Hello, Week in the Life + a Free Download

Days of the Week

Week in the Life is an in-depth life documentation project that takes place over the course of a week. The project was developed by Ali Edwards and focuses on capturing everyday life details that might otherwise be missed.

I’m so excited to be participating for the first time this year, as I feel that it’s the routine of our lives that changes most year to year and never really gets documented, even with all of the memory keeping we do.

Some of you might think that this is a crazy project to take on in addition to Project Life?. How much life documentation does one really need? Jake had that very same question when I was selling him on the idea. The answer is that I am obsessed with life documentation. It goes super fast, and I don’t want a moment to slip away from my memory. I love that our grandkids and great-grandkids can look back through this one day and see what our life was really like in addition to all of the pretty smiling photos that show what we all look like at a certain time, but not much of who we are or how we live.

For us, the plan is to take a ridiculous amount of photos a day, jot a few notes in a saved draft of a blog post, and to share the photos/words of each day nightly here after the wee ones are sound asleep. We’re wanting to mostly use our DSLR, but there will be some Instagrams in the mix for sure. Jake and I are also planning on taking turns as to who gets the camera during the day during the week, as I work/ stay with Jonas at home and Jake works in an office. I have a feeling there will be much fewer photos on the days the camera goes to the office. There will also be a mad amount of Instagrams from me on those days.

The album plan is to use a 8.5 x 11 modern American Crafts album. I really wanted to use one of our custom mini scrapbooks, but I thought about it and decided that we’d take WAY too many photos and write WAY too many words this week to try to squeeze it all in a mini, if our Day in the Life is any indication. I like that the smaller American Crafts album will match the Project Life albums (which are the same, but 12×12). I also love that I can customize the cover.

I cut down seven Hambly transparencies (pictured at the top of the post) to use for dividers each day in the album and added the days of the week in Jake’s handwriting, cut from our Silhouette (we have the old original one).

Days of the Week

You can download the days of the week free here. They are in .png format in a zip file. We’d love to see what you do with them if you download them, but please make sure to credit us if you post your work online.

I was going to make a video tutorial to show you how to cut a .png with a Silhouette for you digital cutters out there, but luckily Allie of Alexandra Rae Designs told my that Ali Edwards beat me to it. Her tutorial is awesome, go watch it!

Are you doing Week in the Life? What’s your Plan?
